Nissan North America (NNA) today (1 March) started selling the Leaf electric car in all US states.

That adds 21 new markets and the Leaf – which will be built at the automaker’s Smyrna, Tennessee, plant from next year, is the first electric car to be available nationwide.

US sales and marketing chief Brian Carolin said there were now 22,000 Leafs on the road worldwide and they’d been driven 30m miles in total – averaging 1363 miles each….

“Nationwide availability means that anyone in the country now can opt for a transportation solution that does not harm the environment, provides a pathway to energy independence, and doesn’t use a single drop of [petrol],” said Carolin.

Reservation holders in the 21 new states today received emails from Nissan inviting them to begin the ordering process. Reservations and orders beging next week for summer first deliveries.
