Systems engineer Olaf Donner talked just-auto through the firm’s F1for3, a connectivity showcase concept that’s making its global debut here in Geneva.
The F1for3 looks like a Formula 1 car that’s been converted to carry two rear passengers. In fact, the rear seats turned out to be the perfect place for a demonstration of the technology that Delphi has partnered with famous Swiss coachbuilder Sbarro to show.

Demonstration was courtesy of Delphi Delco Electonics Europe’s Olaf Donner, who carries the title of product line architect – navigation Europe based in Bad Salzdetfurth, Germany.
“The main innovation is a little black box which we hope will soon be seen in production form,” Donner said. “The choice of a concept that looks like a racing car is deliberate – the black box contains all that a driver needs to stay connected to various media, even at high speeds.”
“The box allows GPS, 3G, wireless LAN and satellite radio connections all via one small system that has been designed to be integrated into a roof module.”
TV on the move, another highlight of the system, has of course been available for many years but Delphi claims another innovation here too: the system eliminates the black spots that can prove so irritating with a feed streamed via the web.
In this case, the black box is shaped so as to integrate with the car’s aerodynamics but a production model would logically be less radically shaped and flatter.
