The lack of an appraisal of Belarusian truck maker MAZ stands in the way of forming a holding with Russian truck producer Kamaz, Alexander Surikov, Russia’s ambassador to Belarus said in an interview with a Belarusian online magazine.

“There is one issue: we lack an appraisal. Although both of us want to create a joint structure ….to ward off competitors from the local market through modernising both plants,” Surikov said, according to Russia’s Prime News.

He said that an international agency’s estimate was US$800m and did not satisfy Belarus, which fully owns MAZ.

“A new appraisal was ordered. But there cannot be a large difference in appraisals by international companies,” he said.

Daimler, which recently obtained permission to raise its stake in Kamaz to a controlling stake, is also interested in the creation of a holding company between MAZ and Kamaz, Surikov said.
