BMW Group said sales in April rose 6.1% year on year to 145,505 vehicles delivered worldwide last month.

During the past four months deliveries increased 9.8% to a record 571,040.

“Following on from the best first quarter in the company’s history, we have just reported our most successful April sales ever,” said sales and marketing chief Ian Robertson. We are well on course to achieving a record year in 2012.”

Sales continued to grow in Asia with 39,770 vehicles delivered last month, up 25%. China accounted for 27,197, up 30.8%. Sales were “solid” in America with 32,705 vehicles delivered, up 6.1%.

Europe sales were flat at 68,033 – the Netherlands was up 29%, France 9.2% and Austria 9.4%.

German sales rose 6.2% to 27,192. BMW brand sales were up 7.1% to 23,420 and Mini 1% to 3,772.

Worldwide BMW brand volume climbed 7.4% to 121,476 last month with year to date sales up 10.1% to 478,030.

Mini sales in April were flat at 23,779 but there were gains in France (22.2%) and Italy (13.9%).
