Higher than expected orders for the new Mirage ‘global small car’ have prompted Mitsubishi Motors Thailand to boost output at its third assembly plant in Laem Chabang, Chon Buri province.

The increased output will enable the Japanese automaker to produce and deliver cars to customers by the end of this year, president Nobuyuki Murahashi said, according to the Bangkok Post. Orders for 20,000 have been since the car was launched late in March.

“We started delivery of the Mirage early this month,” Murahashi said.

About 3,000 units were produced in the first batch at the plant and production will be gradually increased to meet rising demand for both local sale and export.

Mitsubishi plans to export the Mirage to Japan in July and later to Asean, Europe and other markets in that order, the paper said.
