Test production of the first engines has been successful at Opel’s new EUR500m engine plant in Szentgotthard, western Hungary, plant spokeswoman Edit Legradi told local news agency MTI. Serial production is scheduled to start in December.

The plant recruited 178 new employees for the project and plans to hire a further 600 workers over the next three years.

The ‘open flex engine plant’ project was announced in September 2011 and Opel was awarded a HUF5.5bn state subsidy for the investment.
