Maruti Suzuki exported 17,247 cars to Algeria in 2011-12, its largest export market for the year.

“This has opened the doors for us to target other African countries more aggressively,” said marketing head, Mayank Pareek.

The automaker exported 127,000 cars in 2011-12, with exports to Africa of 23,000 units. Increasing sales in Africa and Asia have helped soften the reduced volume in Europe after ‘scrappage incentives’ ended in 2010, reported The Times of India.

Currently, Maruti Suzuki sells the 800, Alto, Alto K10 and A-Star (called Celerio) in Algeria through 37 dealerships. It has a 6% market share in a market where 294,000 new cars were sold in 2011.
