PT. Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN) has just revealed plans to lift the capacity of its Karawang Plant from 100,000 vehicles per annum to 140,000 by early 2013. The total investment to be made at Karawang will be equivalent to JPY16.5bn.
Toyota has had a presence in Indonesia since 1971, with production of the first generation Kijang SUV/minivan crossover following in 1977. TMMIN launched the follow up Kijang Innova in 2004 and the Fortuner, an SUV, in 2005. Last year, TMMIN built 107,000 vehicles, of which approximately 45,000 units were exported to Thailand, Philippines and the Middle East.
