Nissan has increased automobile production at its Thai plant on Bang Na-Trat Road Kilometre 21 in Bangkok after production of Navara pickups was shifted to Mitsubishi Motors’ manufacturing plants.

Nissan Motor Thailand told the Bangkok Post pickup production efficiency was enhanced to support rising customer demand and to deliver pickups more quickly to customers.

“Capacity of the Navara double-cab was raised to 40,000 units per year, part of Nissan’s plan to expand total vehicle production in Thailand to 280,000 units per year,” said president Takayuki Kimura.

This total capacity includes 60,000 single and extended cabs per year at Mitsubishi’s Laem Chabang plant in Chon Buri.

Nissan Motor and Mitsubishi Motors agreed last October to manufacture the Navara, a one-tonne pickup truck, at Mitsubishi’s plant in Thailand.

Mitsubishi Motors Thailand’s president Nobuyuki Murahashi said the Laem Chabang plant will produce up to 60,000 units per year of the Navara for the next three years.

Kimura said Nissan was accelerating the production of other models – it now makes the March/Micra moved from Japan – to meet strong market demand and enable faster delivery. It aims to achieve a 15% market share by 2016, and cumulative sales of over 100,000 units for fiscal year 2012.
