Hyundai
expects to sell 15,000 vehicles in Brazil this year, an increase of 150 percent
compared with the 6,000 last year, writes Rogerio Louro Alves.

The company expects that the H100 passenger van will be its most popular model,
accounting for 9,000 units or 60 percent of sales.

Last year Hyundai Brazil sold just 2,956 H100s.

To achive the ambitious target, Hyundai plans to introduce six new models starting
with the Elantra, launched next week, followed by the Santa Fé SUV and
the Pininfarina-designed Matrix van.

Hyundai has not said what the other three new Brazilian models will be.

The new models will be sold by a dealer network expanded from the present 52
to 80 by the end of 2001.
