Russian production of the redesigned Ford Focus began on Monday at the automaker’s Vsevolozhsk plant near St Petersburg.
The Focus will be assembled locally in all three body styles: four-, five-door and wagon. The five-door hatchback was first with the sedan and wagon following in September and January, respectively.

Ford already holds around 5,000 orders for the car. The Russian line includes four trim levels, 10 exterior colours and four engines – three petrol and a diesel.
The Focus was first sold in Russia in 1999 and over 500,000 have been delivered so far.
Over 400,000 were built at Vsevolozhsk, the first modern factory owned by a global automotive company in Russia, which started assembly in August 2002.
Meanwhile, third generation Focus sales began today in South Africa. Ford’s plant there supplied most second generation cars sold in Australia but that arrangement won’t apply to G3 cars which come initially from Germany and, from 2012, an additional Auto Alliance plant currently being built in Thailand.
