Growing local demand has spurred BorgWarner to build a new, larger factory and engineering centre in Itatiba City, Brazil, about 40 miles/70km north west of Sao Paulo. The new 204,500 sq ft (19,000 sq m) facility will replace the current plant in Campinas and is expected to be complete in August 2012.
“The relocation of production capacity will allow BorgWarner to optimally serve customers with various fuel-efficient technologies, including turbochargers for passenger cars and commercial vehicles, and viscous fans and fan drives. In the future, the facility will be ready to support production for variable camshaft timing (VCT) technology and engine timing systems,” the supplier said in a statement.

The company noted that new emissions standards similar to Euro V being introduced in Brazil were driving demand for its products.
BorgWarner entered Brazil with its facility in Campinas in 1975.
It claims market-leadership for turbochargers, fans and fan drives.
