General Motors’ global new vehicle sales in the first half of 2011 rose 8.9% year on year to 4.54m units, passing the 3.72m Toyota delivered.
GM reclaimed the first half global lead from Toyota for the first time in five years, Kyodo News noted.
Toyota fell to third place in the rankings behind Volkswagen which sold 4.13m.
