New vehicle sales in Malaysia fell by 6% to 50,252 units in July, compared with 53,483 units a year earlier, according to data released by the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA).
Compared with the previous month’s 41,790 units, volumes were up by over 20%, reflecting the improving supply conditions in Japan.
Sales of passenger vehicles were affected most in July, with volumes down by 8.7% year-on-year at 44,835 units, while sales of commercial vehicle sales were up marginally at 5,417 units.
Cumulative sales for the seven-month period turned negative, with total industry volumes down by 2% at 347,455 units, compared with 354,598 units a year earlier.
The MAA expects sales to improve in August, as product supply continues to improve and with a rush of orders being made ahead of the hari Raya holidays at the beginning of September.
