Saab’s main union has held off calling for immediate bankruptcy of the automaker, giving at least the weekend for the manufacturer to come up with a solution to its present crisis.
IF Metall held a meeting with most of its 1,000-strong membership this morning at which not a single voice of dissent was heard asking for Saab to be put into bankruptcy today (9 September).

“Our position is we have decided not to claim for bankruptcy today,” IF Metall legal advisor Darko Davidovic told just-auto from Trollhattan. “We will wait the weekend and see how the company will react.
“We met most of our members this morning and all of them said the same thing – we have not one member who wants to claim for bankruptcy. They said please wait during the weekend.”
Davidovic also met Saab’s legal advisor this morning to discuss the situation, which is reaching boiling point following yesterday’s Vanersborg District Court decision not to allow an application for bankruptcy protection.
IF Metall has contacted Saab’s other main unions, all of whom it says agree no immediate bankruptcy decision should be taken and will give the automaker at least this weekend to find a solution to their members’ unpaid wages.

Saab has praised its unions’ patience that is clearly giving the stricken automaker some breathing space ahead of its appeal against the Court decision on Monday (12 September).
“The unions have been nothing but supportive,” a Saab spokeswoman told just-auto. “They would rather have this, that the company has a chance and everybody has their jobs.”
