Renault’s share of the French car and light truck market reached 30% in September as demand for its vehicles jumped in a market that was down overall.

The company sold 60,674 vehicles in September, and its market share rose from 27.9% in the same month last year. Car sales rose 8.7% in September, while light truck sales fell 6.5%.

Bernard Cambier, Renault’s sales director for France, said in a statement that the performance in September was a good sign of what will happen in the coming months.

According to official data, the French market declined 1.4% in September from a year earlier, and sales of light trucks fell 6.6%.

Car registrations in the country were boosted in the early months of this year by a flurry of orders in late 2010 as buyers rushed to take advantage of incentives that were phased out at year-end.  As car makers expected, the market lost momentum in the second and third quarters.
