The Renault–Nissan alliance is considering the possibility of producing car components at the facilities of Russian carmaker IzhAvto, United Automobile Group (UAG) CEO Igor Kulgan told RIA Novosti.

The group is expected to discuss the issue at a meeting with its suppliers scheduled to take place later this month in Izhevsk. UAG, a subsidiary of state-controlled Sberbank, was founded to manage IzhAvto.

Sberbank, Russia’s largest automaker AvtoVAZ, and Rostekhnologii, which holds a 25% plus one share stake in AvtoVAZ, signed a memorandum of understanding for the long-term development and upgrade of IzhAvto at the end of 2010.

Renault also holds a 25% stake in AvtoVAZ, based in Togliatti and also has a joint venture factory, AvtoFramos in Moscow. Nissan has a plant close to St Petersburg.
