Ford India unit sales crossed the 100,000 wholesale and export milestone during the first 10 months of 2011, a year on year growth of 31%.

Exports continued to grow “at a steady rate” with the company exporting 2,815 cars in October.

Continuing its push into newer tier two and three cities; the Indian unit has opened its 200th sales and service centre.

Ford India sold 101,439 wholesale and export vehicles from January to October, compared to 77,324 units last year.It has now has sold more vehicles in the first 10 months of 2011 than in calendar 2010.

In October 2011, the company achieved combined wholesales and exports of 10,906 units.

“The festivities at Ford India are continuing past Diwali,” said Michael Boneham, president and managing director.

“Having crossed last year’s sales figures already, we are upbeat about closing the year with a new high,” he added.

Ford plans to expand its Indian sales and service network to over 220 outlets in 120 cities by the end of this year, with new dealerships opening in 13 new locations such as Solapur, Gulbarga and Tirupur.

The ‘Ford Figo Bharat Yatra’ promotion ended in Kochi, Cuttack and Jalandhar on 19 October. The pan-India drive covered 1,000 towns across 20 states over 100 days and resulted in over 17,500 prospective buyer test drives and what the automaker called “thousands of customer engagements”.
