Toyota on Monday (7 November) said it had started production of the updated Avensis at its Burnaston factory (Toyota Motor Manufacturing UK – TMUK) in central England. Launched at the Frankfurt show in September, it will reach showrooms early next year.

Tony Walker, TMUK deputy managing director, said: “This is great news for TMUK, we are proud to be starting work on the new Avensis, a car that is central to Toyota’s European strategy and a key model for the UK. British-built, and with petrol engines sourced from Toyota’s Deeside factory, plus ultra-efficient diesels, it is a stronger market contender than ever before.”

As well as the usual midlife styling updates, the D-segment Anensis’ most popular engine, the two-litre ‘D-4D’ turbodiesel, has been revised for lower emissions and better fuel economy with CO2 emissions lowered to 119 g/km, reducing benefit-in-kind tax for UK company car drivers and annual road tax for both business and private buyers.
