Suzuki plans to double car production capacity at its joint venture in Chongqing, China, to 500,000 vehicles a year in 2015.

The company said it will spend about JPY60bn  to build a new plant next to an existing production facility on land to be leased free of charge by the city of Chongqing.

It plans to produce environmentally friendly cars at the new plant. The existing factory produces the Swift and Alto subcompacts and has an annual production capacity of 250,000 units.
