According to a statement by VON Automobiles Nigeria’s Managing Director Tokunbo Aromolaran, a formerly mothballed plant is about to begin assembling Ashok Leyland commuter buses.
The facility, which had been idle for 15 years, is now equipped to build buses for the local market as well as for export to certain other countries in the sub-Saharan region.

Aromolaran said: “We are doing everything possible to change the face of the plant and replenish all obsolete lines of the comatose company to produce made-in-Nigeria Ashok Leyland range of commuter buses.”
The restoration work is 75% complete, Aromolaran said, adding that the company “has received sizeable quantity of knockdown components from Ashok Leyland to begin the first phase of production, which expectedly, will lead to the production of the first batch of buses in five weeks’ time.”
In addition to resuming production, he added that the company’s marketing team has already started implementing marketing strategies for the buses.
According to Aromolaran, the VON Automobiles plant has an installed capacity for 1,000 buses annually.
