Fiat group and Fiat Group Automobiles executive Luca De Meo has resigned, a UK spokesman confirmed.

He was not aware where group marketing manager and Alfa Romeo and Abarth CEO Luca De Meo was going.


“We know him well, we wish him well,” the spokesman said.


A trade newspaper said earlier on its website that Fiat declined to comment officially though sources had said De Meo was leaving to pursue new professional opportunities, and was leaving on good terms with group CEO Sergio Marchionne.


The paper said De Meo joined Fiat in 2002 to head Lancia marketing, subsequently headed the brand and is widely credited for turning around Fiat, a challenge he accepted in 2004.

He reportedly was the first person to run four of Fiat Group Automobiles’ six brands during his career.


He had previously worked for Renault and Toyota’s European unit.
