Vehicle makers Chery, Geely and BYD are reporting sales up in January over the same month last year, according to the Xinhua news agency.

Zhu Yiping, spokeswoman for the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) said the increases come despite recent monthly declines in passenger vehicle sales in China.

Chery sold more than 35,000 units in January, setting a sales record for the company for that month, Xinhua said.

Geely sold 28,502 units in January, an increase of 14.5% from a year earlier, the report said.

BYD sold nearly 20,000 units of its F0 and F3 models, the report said. It didn’t specify how many units BYD sold in total, but said the company’s January sales hit a record high.
