Volkswagen Australia has received over 30 applications from prospective dealers vying to be part of the group’s major expansion Down Under.

According to the website theride.com, Volkswagen took over Australian distribution of its cars at the start of this year after previously using an independent company. The German automaker subsequently announced plans to increase its dealer network to boost sales.

Mdirector Peter Nochar said 31 prospective new dealers have expressed firm interest.

“In order to deliver increased volume, which is a non-negotiable part of our business plan, there is no doubt Volkswagen’s retail network needs to expand,” Nochar told theride.com.

Volkswagen Australia won’t say how many dealers it is recruiting but has confirmed it will launch updated Passat and Bora ranges in the first half of this year.

Theride.com says a revamped Beetle line-up will also arrive later this year. The new vehicles are expected to help Volkswagen Australia achieve a target of 10,000 sales this year.
