GM-AvtoVAZ, the Russian joint venture between General Motors and local carmaker AvtoVAZ, has resumed one shift production after a two month break, a plant spokesman said on Monday.

GM-AvtoVAZ suspended production on 15 December due to slow sales, the New Year and Russian Orthodox Christmas public holidays, and the need to carry out repairs and equipment upgrades.
The automaker had said earlier it planned to lay off about 400 employees as a result of its decision to reduce output and switch to a single shift.
The joint venture began production in September 2002 and currently produces Chevrolet Nivas, building 54,654 in 2008, down 0.7% on 2007, according to earlier reports.
