Toyota Motor Corp.’s models captured the top positions in the domestic-car sales ranking – for the fiscal first-half ending September 30 – with Toyota’s Vitz model coming at number one, says Dow Jones (9/10/00) citing Japan Automobile Dealers Association data published this week.

According to the data, from April to September the company sold 70,980 Vitz cars, with Toyota selling 66,550 Estima minivans. Honda’s Odyssey minivan took third position with sales totalling 64,498.

The month of September saw sales of Toyota’s Corolla model – unveiled late August – total 15,396 units, beating the Vitz vehicle into second place. The company`s Estima model came third with Honda’s Odyssey minivan coming fourth.

For the April-September period, the best-selling minicar was Suzuki Motor Corp.’s Wagon R model, with sales totalling 116,200 units, an increase of 4.9 per cent from the same period last year. Honda’s Life minicar came second, with Daihatsu Motor Co.’s Move vehicle coming third.
