Vehicle production this week in the U.S., Canada and Mexico is expected to hit
an estimated 285,088 units, down from the 298,007 cars and trucks built last week,
according to Ward’s Automotive Reports.
Including this week’s estimates, calendar year North American output now totals
2,554,846 vehicles, down 21.7 percent from like-2000’s pace.

In the U.S., automakers are expected to produce 203,824 vehicles this week,
down 0.2 percent from the 204,258 cars and trucks built last week.
To date, calendar 2001 U.S. vehicle output totals an estimated 1,792,907 units,
down 24.6 percent from the 2,378,892 vehicles built in like-2000.
This week’s Canadian vehicle production is estimated at 43,324, a 22.7 percent
decrease from the 56,053 units assembled last week.
Estimated calendar-2001 Canadian vehicle production now stands at 450,511 units,
down 23.2 percent compared to the 586,271 vehicles produced in like-2000.
Of the cars and trucks slated for production this week in the U.S., General
Motors Corp. accounted for 25.2 percent; Ford Motor Co., 32.5 percent; Chrysler
of DaimlerChrysler, 14.2 percent; Honda of America Mfg. Inc., 6.9 percent; Toyota
Motor Mfg. Inc., 6.3 percent; Nissan Motor Mfg. Corp., 2.8 percent; New United
Motor Mfg. Inc., 3.1 percent; Subaru-Isuzu Automotive Inc., 2.1 percent; Mitsubishi
Motor Mfg. of America Inc., 2.0 percent; AutoAlliance International Inc., 1.1
percent; Mercedes-Benz U.S. of DaimlerChrysler, 0.8 percent; BMW of North America
Inc., 1.2 percent; and other manufacturers, 1.8 percent.
