Brazilian automobile output leapt 23.9% last month with sales of cars and light trucks jumping 10.8% year on year to 221,000 units.

National automakers’ association Anfavea said output was up 2.8% month on month at 253,000 units.

The strong performance has been fuelled largely by generous state incentives to support the car industry, although these are expectd to finish by the end of the first quarter.

Fiat did best in February with nearly 49,000 new cars and light trucks sold, while Volkswagen and Ford posted improved sales, up 9.4% and 3.9% respectively.
