The Flemish regional government proposed in a letter to GM Europe to buy the property and buildings and lease it back, generating EUR200 million that would keep it running.


Flanders fears that GM may sacrifice its Opel factory in Antwerp, which employs 2,600 people, as part of restructuring.


The Flemish government has already offered guarantees of up to EUR300 million to help save the plant.
