American Axle & Manufacturing Holdings (AAM) has confirmed it is supplying rear axles for the Volkswagen Amarok, a new double cab pickup initially launched in South America.

The Amarok incorporates AAM’s new axle, the TracRite Electronic Locking Differential (ELD), along with a chassis-mounted locking differential electronic control module.

The axles are manufactured at AAM’s Araucaria facility in Brazil and shipped to Volkswagen’s Pacheco plant near Buenos Aires.

The open differential and ELD axles feature a new ring gear diameter, hypoid offset, axle housing and redesigned wheel end bearings.

TracRite ELD allows a driver to lock a vehicle’s wheels quickly for improved traction on and off-road. It offers scalable high-torque capacity, low electrical power and actuation that can be programmable, driver selectable, or both and is compatible with ABS braking.

“We are extremely pleased to be supplying this important new vehicle programme, which recognises our capabilities in designing and manufacturing premier driveline and chassis systems for the global market,” said AAM president & COO David Dauch.
