Nissan
Motor Co. said it’s "happy to open discussion” to sell its stake in Nissan
Diesel Motor Co. to Swedish heavy duty truck maker, Volvo AB, Bloomberg reports.
The move could make good strategic sense for both parties.

Renault, Nissan’s partner, sold its heavy commercial truck manufacturing unit
to Volvo AB last year in order to concentrate on light vehicles and therefore
has no strategic interest in Nissan Diesel. Nissan, which has been selling non-core
assets as part of its corporate plan to become profitable, has indicated that
Nissan Diesel isn’t a core unit. At the same time, Volvo AB is seeking to expand
its presence in Asia and is being ousted from its current partnership with Mitsubishi’s
truck-making arm (which is now coming under DaimlerChrysler control).
