Citroën’s
supermini Saxo range will be replaced by two models, according to a report in
the UK consumer magazine, Auto Express. It is reported that the new models’ nomenclature
will continue the ‘C’ naming theme of the C5, with a C2 and a C3. The C2 will
be a ‘sporty’ 3-door model, while the C3 is a mini-MPV style 5-door model. Both
cars have been given a relatively radical appearance and will be built on PSA’s
generic supermini platform – shared with the hugely successful Peugeot 206. In
line with a broader industry trend typified by models like the Toyota Yaris, the
new models have relatively high rooflines.
The Citroën C3 is planned for launch in the autumn of this year at the
Frankfurt Motor Show. The Citroën C2 is expected to be released on to the
European market later in 2002.
