Audi has refuted speculation it is to produce and sell a new model in the US on the back of increasing sales.

There had been speculation the German automaker could develop a car built in the US but an Audi spokesman poured cold water on the possibility, for the moment at least.

“There are neither concrete plans nor decisions concerning an Audi model developed for the US, or for the production of Audi vehicles in the US,” an Audi spokesman told just-auto.

“There is also no urgent requirement for production at the moment in the US.”

Audi recently reported sales of 264,100 cars worldwide in the first quarter of 2010, its best result for the period with March sales of 110,400 its highest ever monthly total.

New A5 Sportback and A5 Cabriolet models helped the company to its record while there were also strong sales of the Q5 and of the A4 and A6 models.
