Chinese reports indicate Daimler may launch an electric car in China with its partner BYD.

Chief executive Dieter Zetsche is quoted as saying any potential electric vehicle could be aimed at the taxi sector, following Daimler’s work with batteries and drivetrains.

Speaking at this week’s Beijing Auto show, Zetsche also mulled the possibility of a long-wheelbase version of its Mercedes-Benz C-Class vehicle.

Last month Daimler signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with BYD that will see it enter into a technology partnership for the development of electric vehicles for China.
