Tata Motors plans to build an assembly plant in Nigeria if certain sales targets are met in the country, it was reported today.
The Economic Times of India quoted Tata Africa’s regional director for West Africa, Sudeep Ray as saying that the plans are dependent on unit sales hitting one thousand per year in the country.

“Definitely for Nigeria we’re planning an assembly plant. We started operation one and half years ago and the last one year has been a learning period to understand which models will be doing well here and accordingly we will be looking at an assembly operation going forward in the next two to three years,” he said.
He added that the company had identified two models for the market, one of which was a bus.

Tata Motors Group global sales rose 39% year on year to 101,712 in March. Jaguar Land Rover sales rose 43% to 23,538 vehicles.
Cumulative sales for fiscal year 2009/10 were up 19% to 872,951.
