Turkey is mulling a range of environmentally-friendly incentives to boost its domestic auto market.
The country has undergone a steep decline in sales numbers as the worldwide slowdown impacted on the auto sector, but the government is now ready to step in according to Turkish media reports.
Industry minister Nihat Ergun is cited outlining a raft of measures including dedicated tax levels for green cars, as well as setting up an electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
“We will take action to provide infrastructure and cost-free building plots for the investments that will be made,” he is quoted as saying.
“We will establish support mechanisms to increase the local level of production.”
Local media, highlighting data from the local automotive industry association, said production rose 69% last month and was up 81% in the first quarter.
