Volkswagen reported U.S. sales of 30,618 in March, a drop of 3.3 percent on like-2000.

Year-to-date sales of 75,027 were also off – by 9.19 percent – compared with like-2000’s 82,621.

VW did however record a March record for the latest Passat with sales of 8,226, up 6.8 percent from last year’s 7,704.


The car maker’s top-selling Jetta also recorded a best-ever March with sales of 12,810, an increase of 6.2 percent over last year’s 12,058 to remain America’s best-selling European model.


The Golf, too, set a March milestone with sales up 20.7 percent to 2,299 compared with 1,905 in 2000.
