Former US transportation secretary Rodney Slater has held talks with Toyota Motor president Akio Toyoda and inspected the head office and quality control facility of the recall-plagued automaker, company officials said.
Slater, who was recently appointed to head Toyota’s quality advisory panel in North America, plans to compile a report by the end of the year on measures to enhance quality with a team of outside experts in light of the inspection results.

The officials told Kyodo News Slater was updated on the progress with Toyota’s ongoing investigation on whether its electronic throttle control system is behind the sudden acceleration of its vehicles, as alleged by some US congressional members.
He also looked into Toyota’s internal decision-making and communication systems, they added.
Slater’s visit to the company headquarters in Toyota, Aichi Prefecture, came after a request by the automaker.
The independent advisory panel was established to monitor Toyota’s efforts to boost quality measures following an unprecedented string of recalls of its vehicles worldwide.
