The reports appeared first in the Nikkei business newspaper in Japan but PSA spokesman Laurent Cicolella told Bloomberg News today: “There are no plans in place or being considered to cooperate with Mitsubishi on plug-in hybrids.”
The Nikkei said the companies wanted to share the costs of MMC’s plug-in SUV, scheduled to arrive in 2013, and a future PSA diesel-electric vehicle.
PSA and MMC do have a number of tie-ups already. The Peugeot 4007 and Citroen C-Crosser crossovers are based on the Mitsubishi Outlander and PSA owns 70% of a Kaluga, Russia, joint venture where all three models are scheduled to be built. MMC owns the balance.
