Fujian Daimler Automotive Co. is planning to start commercial production of Mercedes-Benz vehicles in China in early August, according to local media reports.

Reports say the company has already finished the test run of equipments on its assembling, welding and painting lines.
Fujian Daimler is a joint venture established by Fujian Motor Industry Group, Daimler AG and Taiwan’s China Motor Corporation (CMC).
It will mainly produce Mercedes-Benz light commercial vehicles with less than 20 seats and related auto parts.
Fujian Daimler Automotive Co. will start producing the Viano multi-purpose vehicle and Vito minivans.
Mainland consumers will be able to purchase the vehicles by October and the firm has set a sales target of 10,000 to 15,000 units for 2010.
Starting in early 2010, the firm will produce for export to India and Southeast Asia. These markets are expected to meet an annual sales target of 40,000 to 50,000 vehicles in the medium to long term.
CMC said that the Viano and Vito are positioned as competitors to GM Buick’s GL8.
In addition, Fujian Daimler Automotive Co. will start producing the Sprinter minibus next year.
