Magna International on Tuesday said it planned to open a new multi-product manufacturing plant next May in Highland Park, Michigan, creating more than 400 jobs.

Local reports ahead of the official announcement had said the facility was once part of Chrysler’s headquarters until it relocated to Auburn Hills in 1992.

The new Magna seating facility will supply full seating systems to Chrysler and General Motors, the company told Reuters.

The new unit would receive a Michigan state tax credit of US$4.5m over seven years.
