BMW’s Indian unit has started assembling the redesigned 5 series sedan at its factory in Chennai in the southern state of Tamil Nadu.

In April its introduced the sixth generation model and said deliveries would start by the end of this month, Dow Jones reported.
The Indian line has four variants, two each with petrol or diesel engines. Three variants will be assembled locally, the fourth fully imported.
BMW India has sold over 3,700 5 series units since launch in 2007. The line accounts for over half of the company’s sales.
