About 1,000 new jobs will open this summer, a VW spokeswoman told Germany’s Handelsblatt newspaper.

VW would again reach pre-credit crisis employment levels again after drastically reducing headcount at the plant in 2009. Because of the plunge in demand in the most important markets, it cut the workforce from 7,800 to 6,500 people.

The Bratislava plant normally assembles over 200,000 VW Touareg, Audi Q7 and Porsche Cayenne units each year but built just 110,000 in 2009.
