Japanese production of cars, trucks and buses in the first half of this year fell 45.2% year on year while exports plunged 59.1%.

That was the first half year fall in eight years, the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association told Kyodo News.
Domestic vehicle output was down to 3,321,651 units from 6,059,185 and exports fell to 1,433,488 from 3,505,805 units in H1 2008.
Car production was off 45.3% to 2,850,246 units, and truck and bus production down 44.3% and 47.2%, respectively, to 434,228 units and 37,177 units.
Car exports fell 59.0% to 1,273,362 units while truck and bus shipments dived 62.7% to 121,813 units and 49.7% to 38,313 units.
June domestic motor vehicle production was down 34% to 683,958 units, the ninth straight month of decline.
Exports also plunged 46.0% to 321,255 units last month, the ninth straight monthly fall.
