Nissan plans to suspend production at its plant in St Petersburg in early August for the summer vacation period.

A spokesperson for Nissan told ITAR-TASS that the suspension was not connected with the economic slowdown, lower sales, or disruptions in component supplies.


Other manufacturers in Russia have recently announced production suspensions in the face of a market that is 50% down this year.


The plant, opened on 2 June, currently produces Nissan’s Teana cars and will add X-Trail SUVs later this year. Capacity is put at 50,000 units a year.


Reports last month said that Nissan is considering assembling alliance partner Renault’s vehicles at its St Petersburg plant.
