That made it the best July on record in the automaker’s second largest market after the US. Sales have risen every month this year, GM China said in a statement.

For the first seven months of 2009, GM China and its joint ventures sold 959,035 vehicles, up 43% year on year. Shanghai GM sales grew 61% last month to 56,489 units. SAIC-GM-Wuling sales rose 91% to 87,925 units and GM claimed the JV’s Sunshine minivan was China’s best selling vehicle with 50,564 units sold, up 73% on July 2008.

“The GM family has been among the major beneficiaries of the sales momentum in China that began building in February,” said local president and MD Kevin Wale. “We have additional new products on their way in the coming months that will enable us to keep up with the growing demand.”

GM has said it planned to roll out 30 new or revamped models in China between this year and 2014, including 10 Buick and Chevrolet models this year and next.
