A provincial police agency spokesman told Bloomberg News the operation had started but declined to comment on whether police would enter the paint shop, the main building occupied by the former employees.

About 600 workers are currently occupying the shop.  Ssangyong, which entered bankruptcy protection in February citing a cash shortage, said in April it planned to eliminate over 2,600 jobs, 36% of its workforce, prompting some laid-off staff to begin a sit-in protest.

Police dispatched thousands of officers to the factory on 20 July and have been sending reinforcements in since last Sunday, after talks between workers and company collapsed.

Ssangyong has said it might seek liquidation if workers prolong their occupation while industry observers now think that is inevitable.
