Workers will return to night shift final assembly at Toyota’s factory in Tahara, Aichi Prefecture, on 31 August after a seven-month halt as export demand for the Land Cruiser SUV grows, company officials said on Friday.

The Tahara factory is the only one of Toyota’s assembly plants not operating at night. The automaker last week said affiliate Kanto Auto Works would restore a night shift at its Iwate prefecture plant from around mid-August to boost production of the small Belta/Yaris/Vios sedan line.
That night shift had been cancelled for six months but is being restored because domestic and export market demand for ‘eco-friendly’ vehicles had picked up.
