Safety systems specialist TRW Automotive said second quarter 2010 sales rose 24% to $3.7bn while net earnings of $227m, or $1.78 per share, compared to a net loss of $11m or ($0.11) per share. Q2 operating income was a record $322m compared with $44m a year ago.

“TRW’s impressive results for the second quarter and the first six months of 2010 have been driven by our reduced cost structure and higher levels of vehicle production,” said CEO John Plant.
First-half 2010 sales rose 41% $7.2bn. GAAP net earnings were $431m, or $3.38 per share, compared to a GAAP net loss of $142m, or ($1.40) per share a year ago.
TRW expects full year production to total 11.6m units in North America and 17.2m units in Europe. Based on these production levels and the Company’s expectations for foreign currency exchange rates, full-year sales are forecast to range between $13.2 and $13.6bn, with third quarter sales expected to be approximately $3.1bn.
