JAPAN: Catalyst maker plans to double production by 2005
Japanese vehicle exhaust catalyst maker Cataler Co., 56.5 percent owned by Toyota, plans to double production to 16 million units for a world market share of 15 percent by 2005. It currently has a seven percent share. Cataler presently supplies 70 percent of its products to Toyota but has now started talks with vehicle makers overseas and has received orders from General Motors.

Cataler presently supplies 70 percent of its products to Toyota but has now started talks with vehicle makers overseas and has received orders from General Motors.
Production will start in South America this August and, in October, large-scale output begins at a new factory in North Carolina, Cataler’s second US plant.
The company expects production capacity to reach 12.5 million units by 2005.
